What I Did Not Anticipate When I Started Clutter Cutter

When I started Clutter Cutter, I thought I was starting an organizing business.

And in many ways, I was. I wanted to help people declutter their homes, create systems that made daily life easier, and reduce the overwhelm so many people quietly carry.

What I did not anticipate was what the work would actually grow into.

Because when someone entrusts you to enter their home, it is rarely transactional.

Over time, people start sharing more than their clutter. You begin to understand the bigger picture: what feels stalled, what decisions have been avoided, what support is missing, and sometimes what has simply become too much to manage alone.

I quickly realized that helping people move forward often required more than organizing.

Becoming part of NAPO early on was incredibly important to me, not only because of the education and professionalism it brought to my work, but because it introduced me to a network of trusted people and resources.

Through that community, I discovered solutions that could genuinely help my clients: haulers, consignment professionals, estate sale companies, movers, contractors, closet designers, photo managers, cleaners, estate attorneys, financial professionals, and so many others.

And over time, my own rolodex naturally grew alongside my work with clients.

Not because I intentionally set out to create a concierge-style service, but because client needs naturally led there.

One client needed help renovating a garden apartment. Another needed support in their post renovation clean up. Someone else needed help finding an estate attorney, an accountant, or simply someone trustworthy to help them take the next step.

What I came to understand is that organizing is often the entry point, not the whole story.

Sometimes what people truly need is support, clarity, coordination, momentum, or simply someone calm and trusted helping connect the dots.

Today, decluttering and organizing remain at the core of what we do, alongside daily money management and productivity support. But more and more, Clutter Cutter has also become a way to help clients connect with the right people, tools, and services to help move things forward.

And honestly, that has become one of the most meaningful parts of this work.
